The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Zunheboto, under the Department of Social Welfare, conducted a series of awareness and sensitization programmes on child protection at Akuluto and Satakha on August 17 and 18.
At Akuluto Town, the DCPU conducted an awareness and sensitization programme for members of the Village Level Child Protection Committee (VLCPC), focusing on child rights and relevant legislation, child protection mechanisms, Child Helpline 1098 services, and the roles and responsibilities of the VLCPC in safeguarding children.
The programme was conducted by DCPO Ruzonuo Rita Rutsa, LCPO Lauying Konyak, Child Helpline Supervisor Omekali, and Child Helpline Case Worker Tokato.

On August 17, the DCPU and Child Helpline team also conducted awareness programmes at Highland School, Satakha; GHSS School Colony, Satakha; and GMS Old Town, Satakha. On August 18, programmes were held at Royal School, Akuluto; GHSS Akuluto; and Hill To Children Home School, Akuluto.
The programmes sensitized students on important child protection issues, including safe and unsafe touch, Child Helpline Services (1098), bullying and cyberbullying, child rights and protection laws, and available child protection mechanisms and support services.
While speaking to the media DCPO Ruzonuo Rita Rutsa noted that the awareness initiatives aimed to empower children, teachers and community-level stakeholders with knowledge to prevent abuse, identify potential risks and seek timely assistance, while promoting the safety, dignity and protection of every child.
