DDADU cautions auto drivers without proper documents

Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): The Dimapur District Auto Drivers Union (DDADU) on Friday informed the auto drivers in Dimapur that in case of any accident or incident, the Union would take no responsibility for those drivers without Union ID cards, uniform and relevant vehicle documents.

DDADU President Tito Yeptho asked auto rickshaw owners in Dimapur not to allow drivers without proper documents to drive their autos to avoid any untoward incident.

The DDADU head office will not be held responsible for those drivers who refuse to be affiliated with DDADU, Yeptho stated in a press release on January 29.

Regarding the complaints about the hike of auto fares, the Union reasoned that the rise in price of essential commodities has necessitated the hike. However, DDADU also asked all concerned to inform the DDADU Head office in case of drivers charging excessive fares so that proper action would be taken against the erring drivers.

On actions taken, DDADU President informed that, in an unwarranted incident which occurred between some media persons and an auto driver regarding excessive fare charge, the driver was summoned to the office and let off with a warning. The concerned driver has also been barred from driving any auto in and around Dimapur until and unless he has the Union ID card and uniform, DDADU said.
