DIMAPUR, MARCH 8 (MExN): The Naga Student Union Delhi (NSUD) has also expressed deep concern on the ongoing crisis in Nagaland University and described the resignation of Vice Chancellor G.D. Sharma as his own free will on 28th February 2006 based on the demand of Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) and Post Graduate Student Union (PGSU) of three campuses.
“It is a known fact that G.D.Sharma had failed to set up an engineering college and Institute of Management in Nagaland University even when Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has sanctioned Rs.7 crores in 2004-05. Interestingly, VC received the funds and kept it in fixed deposits and amusingly earning for himself an amount of Rs. 31.57 lakhs as interest and redeposited on 19th January 2006”, a NSUD press communiqué alleged.
Besides this, UGC had also sanctioned funds for Women Studies Centre for Kohima campus, Nagaland University (NU) in 2003, it went on and alleged that “ironically”, post advertisement was published but no interviews were held for more than one and half year. “The concern of crisis in the University system, total indefinite academic closure and the irrationality of G.D. Sharma still residing in the State is causing tension which seems to be escalating”.
Further it condemned the University local officials who are working with G.D.Sharma in mishandling finance for their own narrow purposes and having no commitments and visions towards building a quality University for the Nagas.
“In the interest of the students’ community and the Naga’s, G.D. Sharma resignation be accepted by the MHRD and the Visitors as he has destroyed the growth and efficiency of the University for too long”.
The NSUD also vehemently condemned the actions of the CRPF on the Naga Students Federation (NSF) and All Nagaland College Student Union (ANCSU) where the democratic students were denied the right to express grievances.
