DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): The All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) Dimapur has reiterated its demand for a uniform school academic session throughout Nagaland.
A press release from Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema, President, ANPSA stated that a uniform school academic session would result in manifold benefits for all the schools including students, teachers and parents/guardians.
As of now, under the present system followed under the NBSE, the school session is from January to December. Under this system, there are two separate examinations, one for Primary Classes to Classes-9 & 11 which is conducted in November till first week of December and another for Classes-10 & 12 which is held from February till March. This system leads to a lot of confusion and adds to the burden of the schools as well as the parents, the ANPSA said.
It pointed out that November, December and January being festive months provides a lot of distractions for those students who appear for their final exams in mid November till the first week of December. Central schools lose about three weeks of class time while other schools continue their regular classes which lead to discrepancies among the schools especially when it comes to completion of syllabus, it added.
The ANPSA further stated that students of classes-1 and above who have completed their exams by December contribute to lots of distractions during the Classes 10 & 12 Board exams taken in February or March and vice-versa.
It said that workload of the management as well as the teachers will also be lightened under a common academic session. It will also mean common exam timings, which the ANPSA said would help students to avoid distractions. Moreover all the schools, irrespective of Boards, will be able to follow common academic calendar across the state in line with the rest of the country, it added.
The ANPSA further stated that students seeking admissions outside the state and vice-versa will be at par with the rest of India when it comes to conduct of examinations in one academic session. It will facilitate those students intending to appear for competitive and entrance examinations which they have to appear right after their 10th or 12th Exams.
It added that schools with hostels attached will also heave a sigh of relief as under the present system of January – December session, they need to cater to the requirements of regular new session students as well as those appearing for the Board Examinations.
Further, the ANPSA pointed out that because of the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, schools across the state are facing loss of active working days. It is faced more by the schools under the State Board as they had already started their session from January itself.
“This shows how the schools under the State Board have been greatly disadvantaged during the lockdown period,” it claimed.
Considering the present situation, the ANPSA stated that authorities should bring about a much needed transformation by immediately putting in place a uniform academic session of April to March for all schools in Nagaland from this year itself.
