Noklak, March 10 (MExN): A dementia screening programme for senior citizens under the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) initiative was conducted for the first time at the District Hospital in Noklak on March 9.

The programme was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, during which 96 senior citizens were screened.

Chief Medical Officer of Noklak, Dr Victor, spoke on dementia and explained that the disease commonly affects people in old age. He urged elderly citizens to openly share their health concerns with doctors and nurses for early detection and treatment.

Highlighting possible causes such as head injuries, thyroid disorders, high blood pressure and high sugar levels, he also noted that environmental pollution could contribute to several health problems.

Stressing that prevention is better than cure, he advised the elderly to maintain a balanced diet including organic and protein-rich foods.

District Programme Officer (ICDS) Ajongla Temjen encouraged the elderly to cooperate with caregivers during the screening process.

The programme was chaired by Vein M, DMC, DHEW, while the invocation was offered by Thango K, Associate Pastor of Noklak Town Baptist Church.
