DENSU’s 34th Annual Meet celebrates youth, culture and community

New Delhi, November 2 (MExN): The Delhi Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) hosted its 34th Annual Meet on October 26, 2025, at Nagaland House, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi, under the theme “Forging Paths from Shared Dreams, Empowering Change.”

Co-sponsored by BLK Max Hospital, Fortis Vasant Kunj, and Medanta Hospital, the event brought together students, professionals, and well-wishers from across Delhi NCR in a vibrant display of culture, unity, and shared aspiration.

The meet began with a traditional log drum performance by Eastern Naga personnel of the Nagaland Armed Police, Wazirabad. 

Lumsela Sangtam, General Secretary of DENSU, delivered the welcome note, while Mr Chesong Monbor, Pastor of the Delhi Bible Fellowship (Central), led the introduction and prayer for freshers. The Yimkhiung Tribe, under the DENSU Collective, presented “Rhythm of Eastern Naga Tribes Harmony.”

Gracing the occasion, Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of IDAN congratulated DENSU for its commitment to youth empowerment and community service.

He lauded the talents and potential of Eastern Naga youths and called for unity and collective action to overcome challenges and contribute to nation-building.

“The people of Eastern Nagaland have made remarkable contributions to the journey of the Naga people and possess tremendous potential to contribute even more to the nation-building process,” the Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India added.  

In his presidential address, DENSU President Alun L. Khiungru encouraged youth to strive not only for personal growth but also to uplift their community. 

Guest of Honour Sharon Longchari, Joint Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, highlighted DENSU’s independence and innovative approach to fundraising, urging student bodies to emulate its model of self-reliance.

The programme also featured “Legacy of Guidance: A Tribute,” honouring long-serving advisors Loipong Konyak, Dr Hentok Phom, and Lisapila Anar with Certificates of Honour for their decades of mentorship and service to the Eastern Naga community.

The evening’s second session, “Sound of the Hills,” showcased cultural and musical performances celebrating Eastern Nagaland’s heritage. Highlights included a rendition by Hentok Konyak titled “Melodies of the Hills,” and performances by Ayush Gurung, Rax and The Band, The Eastory Project, and Trance Effect, alongside traditional log drum sequences and tribal harmonies.

The event concluded with DENSU’s signature cultural presentation, “Threads of Culture,” a vote of thanks by Vice President Nyiamli Phom, and a community feast, informed a press release from DENSU. 

Among others, Nagaland Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Temjen Imna Along; MLA Manpon Konyak; TaFMA Chairman Theja Meru; Nagaland Honey Bee Mission Chairman Obed Quinker; Deputy Director and Senior PRO, IPR Kuolie Mere; former President of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) G  Vashum; former President of the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) Hawang Konyak; and Working President of NPF Youth Wing Lhouvi Punyu attended the event.
