Dentists create awareness on oral health across Nagaland

Indian Dental Association, Nagaland State observed International World Oral Health Day throughout the state on March 20 by freely distributing educational leaflets on oral health. Additionally, the dentists also distributed surgical masks and provided hand sanitizers in public places.
Speaking to reporters at Clock Tower Junction, Dimapur, President of Indian Dental Association, Nagaland State, Dr Kaketo Yepthomi said the Association was observing the day in all the district headquarters and some of the sub-divisions by creating public awareness on oral health. “As our contribution to the society and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are also freely providing hand sanitizers and masks to the public,” he said.
He informed that the Association was holding similar campaigns at Railway Station and Chümoukedima. Dr Kaketo advised the public against self-medication when it comes to oral health which may appear to be small problem yet could have huge health consequences with wrong medication.
Kohima: Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) today observed World Oral Health Day across the state under the theme “SAY Ahh #Unite for mouth health.”
In the state capital, Kohima dental fraternity joined the day by distributing free masks, educational pamphlets on oral health and hand sanitisation protocol to the public in three locations- PR Hill, Old MLA Hostel junction and High School Junction.
Healthy mouth, healthy body
Through the observation of the day, the Association conveyed a message to the public that oral health is a window to overall health, adding that oral health is an integral part of general health and healthy mouth means healthy body.
Problem in your mouth can cause problem elsewhere in your body, unhealthy mouth unleashes harmful bacteria into bloodstream and cause serious complications in vital organs, people with gum diseases have higher chances of having stroke and heart attack, read some of placards displayed by the dental fraternity.
Wokha: Awareness drive on oral health was held in Wokha town by Indian Dental Association Wokha branch on March 20. Deputy Chief Medical Officer Wokha, Dr Zuben Kikon along with dental doctors distributed leaflets on oral health at police point Wokha as part of World Oral Health day.
Dr Meribeni Odyuo, District Nodal Officer NTCP Wokha sensitized the public on the importance of oral health as well as do’s and don’ts on Coronavirus which has affected many people across the globe. The team also distributed leaflets on Coronavirus, free face masks to elderly persons and passersby were allowed to use free hand sanitizers.
Around 90 face masks were distributed specially targeting the elderly persons. Hand washing technique was also demonstrated to sensitize the public.
Zunheboto: Indian Dental Association, Nagaland State branch, Zunheboto unit observed World Oral Health Day at Police Station, Zunheboto on March 20.
A press release issued by Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, CMO office, Zunheboto stated that speaking on the World Oral Health Day occasion, Dr Esther Ngullie, Dental surgeon, District Hospital, Zunheboto emphasized that oral health is an integral part of general health. She spoke about the result of tooth decay and basic oral care and motivated the police personnel to visit dentists regularly so that they can help diagnose oral cancer at early stage. She shared about the dental facilities available in the District Hospital, Zunheboto.
Dr Tohito demonstrated about the use of mask. Free hand sanitizers, pamphlets, posters, gloves and mask were distributed to the personnel.
Taking in view of the current COVID-19 situation, a health talk was also given to police personnel. Free Pamphlets and masks were distributed to the traffic police and public. The observation was led by Dr Esther Ngullie, Dr Tohito and Dr Akaholi.
Basic oral care tips
• Brush your teeth when you first get out of bed and before you get back to sleep
• Use fluoridated toothpaste
• Floss your teeth regularly
• Limit acidic drinks and sugary foods
• Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet
• Change your tooth brush every 2-3 months
• See your dentist for regular check-ups.
