Shamator, May 21 (MExN): Taking into consideration the deplorable condition of the lone Community Health Centre (CHC) in Shamator, the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has appealed the Principal Director of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland to immediately fulfill the demand placed by Shamator Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to deploy adequate workforce and required facilities at CHC Shamator, before the deadline expires on May 25.
It is evident that the lives of the entire citizen has been threatened amidst the global pandemic and continues to threaten as there is not even a single Doctor for the entire populace at CHC Shamator to effectively tackle the present prevailing pandemic, the JCC stated.
It also highlighted that 5 people have lost their lives in the midst of recent transfer and posting of Medical Officers depriving the deceased of their proper medical attention and care.
However, the concerned department continues to turn deaf ears and blind eyes to the hue and cry of the people, it stated.
The JCC also mentioned that 12 more COVID-19 positive cases have been detected through random testing at Shamator recently and their primary contract tracing have also not been done even after a passage of more than a week due to reasons best known to the concerned authority.
In light of the above facts, the JCC took an exception to the ‘step motherly treatment’ meted out by the concerned department, and demanded the State Health Department to immediately deploy more doctors led by Senior Medical Officer and adequate number of Staff Nurses and other required workforce and facilities to effectively tackle the pandemic before the end of the 14 days deadline served by Shamator CSOs which will expire on May 25.
In the event of failing to address the demand within the stipulated date, the Health Department shall be solely held responsible for any consequences thereafter.
The JCC was constituted on May 18 as per the resolution of concerned citizens and representatives of various Civil Society Organizations and 11 ward and colony leaders under Shamator Town. It was tasked and empowered to address grievances relating to CHC Shamator to the appropriate authority.
Accordingly, S Toji was appointed as Convenor along with 4 other Co-Convenors and a member secretary. All the eleven wards’ president and President of the Soil & St Xavier Colony were appointed as JCC members. (See table)
