Dept of Land Resources Tuensang tour underway

Tuensang, February 27 (MExN): To supervise the department’s activities and know the status of the IWMP PMKSY (WDC) project in Tuensang district, the Department of Land Resources, Nagaland led by its Director, Renben Lotha reached Ekhao and Pathso villages on February 26. The officials are on tour from February 22 till March 3. 

Addressing the villagers, the Director said, “It is time for the villagers to stand on its own and become self-reliant as the department has invested adequate time in the village.”

Stressing on natural resources, the Director said, “we are created by God to be steward and take care of His creation but we are randomly destroying it. We should change the mindset.”

On water resources, the director said, in many villages there are water scarcity. “Instead of solving the problem locally by preserving trees, taking care of soil and planting more trees, we are rampantly destroying more adding to the issue of water scarcity.” 

“We need to refill our resources by taking care of our forest,” Lotha asserted. 

Talking on sustainable agriculture, the Director opined that jhum is harming the environment and therefore, we need to rethink our agriculture system. “Permaculture is the solution,” he advocated. Lotha also encouraged the villagers to become model for others to learn.

Deputy Director and Supervising Officer, Hekato Yeptho who also spoke on the occasion expressed satisfaction in the implementation of the activities. Jt Director, Albert and other officers accompanied the Director.
