The Mokokchung Entrepreneurs Consortium today granted microloans to 12 businesswomen of Mokokchung under its ‘La Catalyst’ scheme which is a segment of their microfinance initiative exclusively designed for women entrepreneurs. Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal IAS gave away the cheques to the beneficiaries.
The Deputy Commissioner encouraged the women entrepreneurs to judiciously invest the loan without squandering it on unproductive investments. He advised that proper financial management was a key factor in determining the results of one’s business venture. He also observed that Naga society was lagging behind others in terms of making savings and added that Naga people need to develop the habit of savings if Nagaland is to prosper economically. He said that the habit of savings coupled with proper financial management practices was necessary for all individual members of the society and not just entrepreneurs. He also added that hard work was necessary to be successful in any venture, be it academics or business and that one must not expect to success in business without making sacrifices.
Earlier in the programme, chairman of MEC Tsukti Longkumer while delivering his keynote address said that the micro loans were given away with trust on the beneficiaries that they would repay them on time. He also said that trustworthy beneficiaries will be rewarded with bigger amounts of loan in the future. He also said that MEC has a ‘wise counsel’ cell and informed prospective entrepreneurs with new ideas or even struggling entrepreneurs to avail the service provided by MEC ‘wise counsel’ to give life to their ideas or find solutions to their problems.
