Mon, March 2 (MExN): Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (DIVYANGJAN) under DEPwDs, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India in collaboration with District Administration, Mon and Youth Action for Social Service (YASS), Mon held the inaugural programme of a three day diagnostic-cum-hearing aid fitment camp under ADIP Scheme on March 2 at District Hospital, Mon. The camp will conclude on March 4.
DC Mon Thavaseelan acknowledged the Central team for coming to the State for the camp which is a follow up of the initiatives taken in 2018-2019. While the previous camps were focused on all categories of people with disabilities (PwDs), this camp is specifically targeted for persons with speech and hearing disabilities, he said. The DC stated that beneficiaries would be given hearing aids after tests are conducted and urged upon the gathering to spread the word so that others may also benefit from the camp.
Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Mon, Dr Khrielasanuo stated that the camp was made possible because of the proactive initiative taken by the DC Mon. She stated that the hospital and its staff were ready to extend help and support in order to make the camp a success.
Social Welfare Officer, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr Prosenjit Majumdar stated that the camp was initiated under a central scheme Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP). To avail the benefits, one needs to submit four documents: Aadhaar Card, Disability Certificate, Income Certificate (Free for those with income below Rs 15,000) and two passport photographs, he added.
The programme was chaired by EAC Mon (Development) Chubasanen Ozukum.
