Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): DigiLocker services for Nagaland eDistrict project was launched in Guwahati on August 11. It was jointly launched by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Justice & Law and Jacob Zhimomi, Nagaland PHED Minister during the ‘Digital North East: Vision 2022’ release event organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
Jacob Zhimomi, while representing the State, congratulated the Department of Information Technology & Communication for playing a key role to transform Nagaland into a modern State.
According to a press release from Yanger Longkumer, Assistant Program Officer, Department of Information Technology & Communication, Government of Nagaland, Zhimomi opined that the young people of North Eastern Region can be innovators, creators and builders of the future and assured that the Government of Nagaland will undertake all necessary activities ensuring implementation of the Vision for a Digital North East 2022 to “meet the changes of our times.”
The Vision Document aims to leverage digital technologies to transform lives of the people of the North East States and enhance the ease of living in the region, noted the press release.
While unveiling the plans under Digital North East: Vision 2022, the Union Minister mentioned setting up of a Cloud Hub for the North Eastern Region, doubling the number of seats planned for BPOs in the region, providing high speed broadband connectivity to villages and expansion of Common Service Centers to cover all the villages in the region, it informed.
Meanwhile, to achieve the vision, eight key thrust areas have been identified – digital infrastructure, digital services, promotion of electronics manufacturing, promotion of IT and ITeS including BPOs, digital empowerment, digital payments, innovation & startups, cyber security.
During the event, several other projects were launched for other North East States.
