Dimapur: 32nd anniversary of NLTP Act on March 29

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): The North East Artist Network (NEAN) in collaboration with Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) will be observing the 32nd anniversary of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989 at Don Bosco, Dimapur on March 29 with the theme ‘understanding & empowering alcoholic community.’

The programme which will begin at 9:00 am aims to provide a platform for broader understanding and positive attitude towards the significance of the NLTP Act, 1989, a press release from the NEAN informed on Wednesday.

The release stated that since the NLTP Act was introduced in the year 1989, “its enforcement for the last thirty one years has only been partially successful,” and has neither been observed in toto nor has it been able to stem the flow of liquor in the state. “How far the three decades of NLTP enactment in the state has been effective in controlling liquor related health issues and other social problems associated with alcoholism should be studied and review in its totality,” it added.

It further stated that the ever increasing numbers of alcoholism victims in the state is indicative of the low level of awareness and understanding of NLTP act by the masses of state. Above all, the inflow of spurious liquor (in the form of IMFL) illegally in the state is posing a grave concern and endangering so many precious lives, the release stated.

Alcoholism is associated with a wide range of health and social problems and in our case study it was identified that many of the alcoholics are unaware about the NLTP Act and they are not even aware that Nagaland is a dry state, it added.

The release further stated that the programme would create general awareness and understanding about NLTP Act, provide a platform to the communities to share their stories, encourage and motivate alcoholics to stay away from the habits and improve the overall quality of life of the alcoholic community.

The programme is supported by GBs Union, Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), and Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF).

The NEAN meanwhile informed that the NEAN Band would be releasing a debut single title “Bimar” (Nagamese Song) and invited YouTubers who are interested in vlogging or live streaming to contact e-mail: neannagaland@gmail.com.
