Dimapur and Karbi Anglong talks border issue

Dimapur, August 17 (DIPR): A coordination meeting between district administration of Dimapur and Karbi Anglong was held today August 17, 2010 at CCI Guest House Bokajan.

Deputy Commissioner Karbi Anglong S.N. Barman while welcoming the members present in the meeting said that this has been a continuation to the previous meeting and this being the fourth meeting between the two districts to exchange views and opinion and the problems faced by the two neighbouring states. As the two districts has close proximity to each other, information sharing and cordial relationship is very important for the benefit of the states for maintaining law & order and for peaceful co-existence. 

Superintendent of Police Karbi Anglong K.K Sharma while highlighting border related issues and crimes between the two states, he said that as a law enforcing agency from past experience he suggest to restrain ourselves to avoid any conflict and to maintain the status quo of any encroachment issues. Supplementing to his DC’s view, he said that timely information sharing is very crucial for tackling cross-border crimes. DC Dimapur Maongwati Aier while thanking the Karbi Anglong administration for hosting the co-ordination meeting said that for the benefit of the people of both the states the age old relationship need to be maintained and be respected. He also said that for the sustenance of socio-economy of the two states, we need to handle any conflicts or misunderstanding very maturely and amicably as the two states is inter-dependent on each other.

While speaking on the action of Assam Police stopping for construction of houses at Dikoi village some few months back. Aier said that, Government of Nagaland has recognized Dikoi village way back in 1989, whereby he appeal to the Assam Government to respect the rights and sentiments of the people of Nagaland and to maintain the status quo. As this settlement of issue is under the preview of the Supreme Court and the court has setup three (3) men local committee for fact finding which the committee will be visiting the state very shortly. DC Dimapur further assured his counterpart that the district administration will not allow further construction till the case is settled. Maongwati also appealed to the Karbi Anglong administration to limit wine shops at Lahorijan as per the norms in order to check inflow of IMLF at Dimapur. He further appealed to his counterpart to strengthen the man power at New Field and Dillai Gate to check the illegal inflow of narcotic, IMLF and crime related problems for the benefit of both the states.

DC also suggested for invitation of the Excise Commissioner from both the states in the next co-ordination meeting. DC further informed the house that the Nagaland state Government has established the Directorate of Border Affairs with up to date infrastructures, maps and archives pertaining to Assam-Nagaland border.
