Chümoukedima, April 21 (MExN): Dimapur emerged champions of the 5th Late G. Rio Memorial Men’s U19 Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2025 after defeating Kohima by a nail-biting margin of one wicket in the final played at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium.
The closely contested match kept spectators on the edge of their seats, culminating in a dramatic finish as Samir Ali guided Dimapur to victory with a composed 60-run innings. Chasing a target of 135, Dimapur secured the win in 33.4 overs with just one wicket remaining.
Kohima had earlier won the toss and opted to bat, putting up a total of 134 runs in 41.5 overs. Vizoletuo Zhale led the scoring with 32 off 33 balls, supported by Thupuluzo Lohe’s steady 26 from 57 deliveries. Dimapur’s bowlers kept the pressure throughout, with Yashimeren Jamir returning figures of 3 for 27 in his full quota of 10 overs. Medempok Pongen and Raja Kumar also played key roles, picking up two wickets apiece.
In reply, Dimapur’s innings stumbled early with wickets falling at regular intervals. However, Samir Ali held the chase together with a crucial 60 off 69 balls under high pressure. Kohima’s bowling attack fought back valiantly, with Zhale once again making an impact—this time with the ball—claiming 4 for 24 in 7 overs. His all-round performance nearly turned the match in Kohima’s favor before Dimapur edged over the line.
Samir Ali was named Player of the Match for his match-winning knock, and also walked away with the Player of the Tournament award, capping off a stellar campaign.
The prize distribution ceremony, held after the match, was graced by M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar, Member of the Apex Council of the BCCI. Awards were presented to outstanding performers of the tournament, including Nikato Zhimo of Zunheboto as Best Batter, Sujit Kumar of Niuland as Best Bowler, and Renben Kithan of Wokha as Best Wicketkeeper.
