Dimapur, June 1 (MExN): Anishe Kupu Women Welfare Society has donated a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the District Hospital, Dimapur, to be used particularly for COVID-19 related expenses such as oxygen, medical bills, etc., of patients from needy and low-income families.
The women group stated that the years 2020 and 2021 have been exceptionally harsh due to the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns, which has exacerbated the already existing socio-economic hardships for many underprivileged families. It would be remiss if the Society did not take note of these developments, it said in a press release on Tuesday.
It said that the donation was made to show its support in the fight against the global pandemic.
Further, the Society also expressed gratitude and appreciation to the efforts of the frontline workers during the global crisis. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you all,” it added.
As per the release, the Anishe Kupu Women Welfare Society was founded in the year 2005 “by a small group of like-minded individuals, with the intention to pursue empowerment for underprivileged women and children.” It is a registered society under the Government of Nagaland and recognised as a voluntary organisation based at Thilixu village. The release stated that its main objective was to fulfil charitable works for the weaker sections of the society at the micro-level, through rehabilitation, vocational training, developing rural entrepreneurship or improving health and education in the rural areas etc.
To pursue the stated goals, we have organised income generating skill-trainings for underprivileged girls/women; conducted seminars for women; contributed funds to upcoming colleges and for rehabilitation programmes like Samaritan Home; sponsored deprived and impoverished widows etc., it added.
