DIMAPUR: Taking cognizance at reports that illegal collections are taking place in and around Dimapur particularly at check gates, the district administration team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Nzimongo Ngullie, conducted a surprise raid here today.

The team while carrying out the raid at the New Field check gate got information about the illegal collection by some organizations when two young men were interrogated.

They revealed that they were stopped and were made to pay. They were not given any kind of written proof that the tax has being paid. Before the force acted over to look for the person/s collecting the tax, they had already vacated the booth.

Failing to get a hand of any illegal collectors, the DC was of the view that, “The administration should frequently keep an eye on every points then only we can drive the illegal tax collection”.

Interestingly, at Dillai gate and Nagaland/KhatKhati gate, the personnel who were on duty were all out of their uniforms and were comfortably enjoying the evening breeze.

Bidhu Shekar, Superintendent of Police Dimapur sternly admonished the personnel on duty and asked over the reason of why they were out of uniform.

The in-charge responded to the query by maintaining that since it was “hot” he was not wearing the uniform.

Further, according to a release issued by Dimapur DC has reminded again that any collectors found guilty of such malpractice will be arrested and strong legal action taken against them.

Nzimongo Ngullie, DC Dimapur in an order stated that all check gates are subject to thorough search to ascertain whether such illegal collections are taking place and anyone found collecting illegal taxes would be arrested and prosecuted under appropriate sections of the law.
