Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan on Monday issued protocols for the management and disposal of bodies of people who died of COVID-19.
The DC’s order was issued in line with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on March 3, 2020 and the Home Department, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority on April 13, 2020.
The protocol stipulated that identified dead bodies will be handed over to the relatives for proper burial after taking all infection control measures by the concerned hospital.
For unclaimed dead bodies, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will take over and ensure proper disposal. “However, in circumstances where the relatives are not in a position to take a COVID positive dead body due to various constraints such as financial, logistics etc., the SDRF shall assist in disposing the dead body,” it added.
In the case of needy or poor families who are not in a position to pay any incidental cost of disposing the dead bodies, the order stated that the District Task Force shall bear the expense/cost for the same.
