East Police Colony (EPC) on Saturday organized a ‘Recognition Program’ here at Salt Christian College to mark the official recognition of the colony by the State government.
President, Naga Council Dimapur, Etsungmomo Kikon, who graced the program as special guest in his address congratulated East Police Colony for becoming the 99th government-recognized colonies in Dimapur.
The NCD president said with the recognition, the colony would have better access to development and government welfare schemes.
Kikon also said the new status of the colony would entail greater responsibility for the colony council in particular on how to run the affairs of the colony including peaceful and harmonious co-existence, cleanliness and civic sense.
He noted that almost all colonies and localities in the commercial hub lack civic sense and in the process hampering development as well as creating discord amongst residents and neighbours.
The NCD president also stress on the need for all colonies to co-operate with the Dimapur Municipal Council so that the city becomes a cleaner and healthier place to live in.
Stressing on the need for the every colony council to be effective, inclusive and transparent, Kikon also said the colony councils and residents should always remain alert to the threat posed by anti-social elements and drugs.
He further urged the citizens in general to follow Covid-19 appropriate behavior as Dimapur still accounts for the highest Covid-19 positive cases in the state.
Chairman of East Police Colony, L Toshi Ao, in his address dwelled on the sacrifices and efforts of pioneers of the colony, past and present members of the colony council to pursue recognition of the colony.
Earlier, GB of EPC, Khezheto in his welcome address said the recognition of the colony was a long-felt desire of the approximate 3,000 residents of the colony.
Highlights of the programme included presentation of folk song by EPC women wing, special number by Ketsϋnϋo Theyo, thanksgiving prayer by Rev. Rakhu Livi, pastor Police Baptist Church.
