The foot bridge near the plaza intersection in Dimapur, once again, calls for serious attention of concerned authorities. The cracks in the ‘checkered steel plates’ are becoming bigger. More cracks have appeared and vehicles running below clearly visible through the gaps. The Morung Express had carried a report accompanied by photographs on May 23 last. As it appears, the department in concern is still oblivious to the condition of the footbridge.
Although other structures are still intact, the checkered steel plate needs immediate attention. The entire structure was reportedly cross checked and cleared by the Central Road Fund in Delhi. The checkered steel plate is reportedly ISI approved, as all other items used in the bridge. The steel plate is supported by steel tubes beneath.
The bridge, inaugurated in 2004, is much too young to wither. Unless the department in concern immediately looks into the damage, chances are that it could lead to accidents in coming days.
