DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Treatment Counseling Centre (TCC) for people living with HIV/AIDS, a project under Nagaland Network for People Living HIV/AIDS (NNP+) was inaugurated today (Aug 6) in the premises of Dimapur Civil Hospital by K. Khekaho Assumi, member DMC.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest K. Khekaho Assumi lauded the NNP+ and DNP+ (Dimapur Network for People Living HIV/AIDS) for being able to open an information centre for more effective way of treatment. He was of the view that the centre would be able to play a major role in helping the people living with the virus.
He appealed to the members of various organizations that were present in the function have better network and co-ordination among themselves to be able reach out to more people.
Stating that Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is one organization that has donated millions of Rupees to the county for funding of battle against the virus at war-footing, Assumi wondered if the NGOs are rightly utilizing the funds for the campaign. He asserted that funds must be utilized judiciously.
The chief guest warned the NGOs in the state not to project false facts and figures in order to avail more funding. He pointed out that giving false facts and figures may attract more funds but one does not realize that it will have adverse effect on the state as a whole and its entire population and which, in the long run, would even stigmatize the normal people. Drawing an example from a Biblical story of Gihazi whose greed made him leper for all days of his life, Assumi appealed to the members of various NGOs to be sincere in the job.
For proper functioning of the centre, the chief guest donated a sum of 50,000 towards the centre. He also said that the DMC would be willing to extend help in anything that the council could do. DMC member, Thungchanthung Lotha accompanied him.
Short speeches were also delivered by representatives of World Vision, Population Foundation of India and Miqlat Ministries.
