Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): Dimapur Government College (DGC) observed its 58th Freshers’ Meet in the college auditorium on August 22. The annual event was organised by the Dimapur Government College Students’ Council (DGCSC).

The event was attended by Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Nagaland. 

The Minister addressed the gathering, urging unity and cooperation for a strong Nagaland and discouraging tribalism and negativity among the youth. 

Emphasizing that there are no shortcuts to success, he encouraged students to work hard, remain resilient, and support one another. He announced that equal importance would be given to Science, Humanities, and Commerce streams and revealed plans to develop DGC as a Skill Hub. 

He also assured transparency in student scholarships and proposed an inter-college music competition early next year to promote musical talent. Additionally, he committed to installing air conditioners in classrooms in the coming years.

Earlier, in his address, Dr T Tiakaba Jamir, Principal of DGC, highlighted the progress of the college, particularly the introduction of the science stream and the excellent academic results of students. He noted the exceptional performance of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, specifically mentioning that DGC produced the topper in MA Education from Nagaland University, Mutsoi Kham, who was recognized with a citation and a cash award.

The event was also attended by DGC faculty, staff and students; and representatives from several other institutions, including St John College, Immanuel College, MGM College, Salt Christian College, Patkai Christian College, Eastern Christian College, Pranab College, Cornerstone College, SD Jain College, Sakus Mission College, Public College and Livingstone College.

The formal session concluded with a Traditional Round, where sixteen participants showcased their traditional attire and cultural heritage, competing for the titles of Mr. and Miss Freshers.
