Dimapur, July 14 (MExN): Dimapur Police have arrested nine people on charges of extortion from different locations over the last one week.
On July 9, Dimapur Police SOT party apprehended one Aghovi Aye (22), Sectional Officer, NNC/NPGN for collecting illegal tax from business community in the name of faction, informed a press release from PRO, Dimapur Police. Rs. 320 in cash and one mobile phone were seized from his possession, it said. In this connection, a case has been registered at Sub-Urban Police Station C/No. 39/18 for further investigation.
Dimapur Police Anti-Extortion Team (AET) meanwhile arrested one person identified as Inahoto Sumi (34) while allegedly extorting illegal tax from vegetable vendors on July 10. In this regard, a case has been registered at East Police Station C/No. 152/18 and investigation is going on.
On July 11, the AET further apprehended two persons, namely Shigpong Yim (55) and Bovito Chishi (42), both Rajupeyus of GPRN/NSCN, while distributing demand slips to the shopkeepers, the release alleged. Following items were recovered from them: information slips, house tax slip, shop tax slip, cash amounting Rs. 4500, and assignment letter in the name of GPRN/NSCN, it added. A case has been registered vide Diphupar Police Station C/no. 43/18 for further investigation.
The AET also apprehended two persons on July 11 around 5:30 pm while they were extorting money from truck drivers in the name of NSCN (R), according to the Dimapur Police PRO press release. Rs. 400 were seized from the possession of the two identified as Purne Sonar (30) and Asoba Imsong (29), it added. In this connection, a case has been registered at West Police Station C/No. 71/18 for further investigation.
On July 12, AET meanwhile apprehended one person named Akai Aye (43) while extorting money from business establishment at Duncan Bosti, Dimapur in the name of FGN, the release said. Incriminating documents with cash of Rs. 1850 were seized from his possession, it claimed. A case has been registered in this regard at West Police Station C/No. 40/18 for further investigation.
Meanwhile, on July 14 around 5:30 am, Dimapur Police SOT party apprehended one person named Kumugha Chophy (29) for illegal collection of tax in the name of faction and recovered/seized a cash of Rs. 1750 and one mobile phone from his possession. In this connection, a Suo Motu FIR has been registered at West Police Station and investigation is on, the release informed.
Around 11:00 am the same day, the SOT party apprehended one person identified as Toviho Yeptho (36) for collecting illegal tax from business community in the name of NSCN (R). A cash of Rs. 6000 and one mobile handset were seized from his possession, it was informed. In this connection, a Suo Motu FIR has been registered at East Police Station for further investigation.
Two arrested for theft
On July 10, two persons identified as Anguvi (30) and Khekaho (28) were arrested by Dimapur Police in connection with the theft of a two wheelers (Scooty). A case has been registered in Diphupar Police Station for further investigation, the Dimapur Police press release said.
