DIMAPUR, March 23 (MExN): The Dimapur police have busted what appeared to be a well organised ring of bike thievery in the city. As per the Dimapur police, it was the result of a three-week long investigation following the arrest of one person in February. 

“Last month (February), one person was arrested red-handed while stealing a two-wheeler. It led to the arrest of three other accomplices and the recovery of 18 stolen two-wheelers,” said ADCP (Crime)/PRO of the Dimapur police, Relo T Aye. 

The official press release from the Dimapur police identified the 4 accused as Toluka Chophy (30 years), Akato Chophy (37 years), Sukhato Achumi (26 years) and Kivigho Kiba.

The recovered two-wheelers included one Royal Enfield, three TVS Apache, two Hero Glamour, three Bajaj Platina, two Bajaj Discover, one Hero Splendour and six scooties.  

This remarkable breakthrough was a result of a well coordinated and resolute investigation which spanned for about three weeks period.

In another unrelated incident on March 23, East Police Station personnel and the Anti-Vehicle Theft Squad recovered a stolen mini-truck (407) from 4th Mile and handed over to the Assam Police. It was reportedly stolen from Karbi Anglong. 

Earlier, on March 17, one Vinoka Sumi (32 years) was arrested on charges of extorting from businesses in 4th Mile.
