Dimapur police crime score: 138 cases in three months

Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): Over the past three months (01/01/2021 to 16/03/2021), the Dimapur police have registered 138 cases of crime under various sections of the IPC and Special and Local Laws (SLLs). Theft topped the chart with 61 registered cases, followed by extortion with 13 cases, as per a crime roundup released by the Dimapur police PRO on March 16.

In connection to the extortion cases, 19 individuals were arrested and cash amounting to Rs 31,10,515  were confiscated. 
Included in the list were 2 cases of murder and 3 attempts to murder, 4 kidnappings and abductions and 6 cases of ‘causing death due to negligence.’

A total of 30 cases were registered under the following Acts— Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition, Drugs & Cosmetics, Arms, Foreigners and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. 38 persons were arrested in connection to the cases. 

The items captured included an assortment of drugs, 16 arms, 510 rounds of ammunition, 1 grenade, besides illicit IMFL and cash amounting to a total of Rs 3,97,500. 

Abducted transporters rescued
Two transporters, who were reportedly abducted in Dimapur, were rescued on March 13. According to a crime roundup/press release issued by the PRO of the Dimapur police, the two unnamed persons were taken captive by unknown persons from Purana Bazar and rescued by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and police from Thilixu village area. The release did not specify the date of abduction and who were involved, only stating that a case was registered at Diphupar Police Station. 

2 arrested for extortion
In another incident on March 15, two persons identified as Kughato Swu (34 years) and Inaka Achumi (35 years) were arrested from 4th Mile for extortion. According to the police, they were extorting money from businesses in the name of the FGN. Rs 2000 in cash and 2 mobile phones were confiscated from their possession.  

1 held with IMFL
On March 16, one Dilip Basumatary (32 years) was arrested with 17 cases of IMFL. The release said that the accused was transporting the illicit liquor in a Maruti Alto (NL 01P 5847) and a case registered at Chümoukedima Police Station. 

It also informed that police escorts is also being provided to the commercial transport/trucks at the given time slot— 5:00 am to 8:00 am.
