Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): The Commissionerate of Police, Dimapur has issued a public notice inviting claims for 57 vehicles lying unclaimed or abandoned at various police stations and traffic controls under the Commissionerate for more than six months.
The notice, issued by Commissioner of Police Aotula T Imchen, IPS, said the action was being taken in pursuance of a July 28 letter from the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Dimapur, in connection with the disposal of seized and unclaimed vehicles.
Registered owners, lawful owners, persons having lawful possession, or anyone with a legitimate claim or interest in any of the vehicles have been given **30 days from the date of publication of the notice** to submit their claims.
"Claimants shall produce valid and relevant documents in support of the claim," the notice stated, adding that all claims would be subject to verification of ownership, registration particulars, police records and other relevant records.
The police warned that if no valid claim is received within the stipulated period, the vehicles would be "dealt with and disposed off" in accordance with the prescribed procedure and applicable law.
"No claim or objection shall ordinarily be entertained after expiry of the aforesaid period," the notice stated, except where otherwise permissible under law or by an order of a competent court or authority.
