Dimapur trade body calls for total shutdown on September 16

Dimapur, September 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) has called for a total business shutdown in Dimapur on September 16 to protest the state government’s inaction against illegal and multiple taxation.

Along with shops and business establishments, the total shutdown will also cover restrict entry of goods transport into Dimapur as protest against various DMC taxes and fees at check gates collected on GST items, DCCI President Akashe Zhimomi said on Saturday.

The total shutdown has been called as part of the first phase of the DCCI’s agitation to protest against the inaction of the Nagaland government and its machinery against multiple and rampant illegal taxation on the business community by various groups and government agencies, Zhimomi added.

The president went on to state that the call for the day-long shutdown was made as per the DCCI’s recent statements published in the local media, wherein it highlighted the plight of the business community due to multiple and rampant illegal taxation by various groups as well government agencies.

“Sadly, the state government has so far not taken any concrete steps or gave assurance on the issue of illegal and multiple taxation,” he said while cautioning that the DCCI would be “compelled to resort to further and extreme courses of action,” if the government of the day fails to address the genuine plight of the business community.

The DCCI also made an appeal to the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI), the apex traders’ body of Nagaland, and all its district units to lend support and show solidarity to the common issue. It also requested the public to lend their voice and extend cooperation as the issue of illegal and multiple taxations affects each and every citizen of the state.
