Fire breaks out at Nagaland House in New Delhi; no casualties

A fire broke out at Nagaland House located on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi, on Monday morning.

New Delhi, June 22 (MExN): A fire broke out at Nagaland House located on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi, on Monday morning, with authorities attributing the blaze to a suspected electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit in Room No. 2. There were no casualties or injuries.

The Delhi Fire Service was alerted and arrived at the scene, bringing the situation fully under control, reported Abu Metha, Adviser to the Chief Minister on his X account.  Prior to their arrival, staff of the guest house fought the spread of fire using available extinguishers from within the premises and neighbouring apartments, including climbing to the roof to douse flames through back windows when the fire became inaccessible from the front.

 

Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari, NCS, led the on-ground emergency response and post-disaster management operations. Concerned authorities and senior officers of the Nagaland State Government are currently assessing the extent of structural damage to the building 

Metha who stated he had arrived in New Delhi on official engagements and was in the adjacent room at the time of the incident, describing himself as “perhaps the very last to escape.”

Nagaland House, inaugurated in 1973 by former Chief Minister Dr Hokeshe Sema, has served as the state's official residence and guest facility in the national capital for over five decades. Located close to the Prime Minister's residence, the building has historically served as a venue for meetings, church services, student gatherings and community events for Nagas visiting or residing in Delhi.
