Dimapur, December 15 (MExN): A workshop on peace building and SDGs organized by National Foundation for India (NFI), hosted by Can Youth and Co-sponsored by European Union was held at Hazadisa village on December 14.
A total of 30 youth representatives from three villages namely: Hazadisa, Manglamukh and Ganeshnagar under Dhansiripar Sub-division, Dimapur attended the workshop.
A press release stated here that Katini, Field Coordinator, spoke on SDG’s 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. She said that gender equality is a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. She discussed the importance of youth participation and collaboration in peace building to achieve SDGs.
She said, “today, we can see women are capable of doing wonders in the community through full and effective participation and equal opportunities in leadership at all levels of decision making in political, economic and public life.”
A group activity was carried out on how a man wants a woman to be and how a woman wants a man to be. The activity was to understand the perspective of both the sides by which they can learn and understand the requirement for them through which community engagement will be more efficient.
Further, Katini stressed on the importance of communication towards the opposite gender as communication is one of the important factors in daily aspects. She also encouraged the participants to be a self-reliable and self- dependent person for a better living and to know more about the value of life.
Sentiwati, Project Coordinator, Development 4 Adolescent spoke on SDG’s- 8: Promote inclusive growth, employment and decent work for all. He highlighted the unemployment rate at global and Indian context. Where globally 172 Millions are unemployed, 71 Millions are young Women and men, In India there are 510 million labor force, 20.7% are of employed adolescents engaged in hazardous work, 10 million children are employed in labor force, 6.9% of unemployment rate in India which is the drawback or stumbling block in the country.
He highlighted the unemployment rate of global, Indian context where globally 172 Millions are unemployed, 71 Millions are young women and men, in India there are 510 million labor forces, 20.7% are of employed adolescents engaged in hazardous work, 10 million children are employed in labor force, 6.9% of unemployment rate in India. “Sustained and inclusive economic growth rate can drive progress, create decent jobs for all and improve living,” he said while adding that every individual need to be sustained and inclusive economic growth rate which can drive progress, create decent jobs for all and improve living.
He encouraged the participants to not only depend on government jobs but seek more opportunities in the private sectors and encourage the youth to start up their own enterprise for income generation with the available resources or in their own field of interest.
