Diphupar expels 3 for selling alcohol, other offence

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 22 (MExN): Diphupar Village Council (DVC) has expelled three persons from the village for an indefinite period of time for committing various offences. 

As per August 22 meeting resolution of the DVC, the trio identified as Tovishe Sumi, Arhamo Lotha and Kikheho Sumi who have been asked to leave the village within 24 hours were expelled for committing the following offences: for violating resolutions of the Diphupar village public general and DVC meeting banning sale of alcohol and other banned items within the village jurisdiction; for insulting DVC members and challenging the Council’s directive on duty; and for intruding and ransacking the residence of chairperson, Diphupar Naga Women Organization (DNWO) on August 18. The expulsion order stated that the trio would be personally held responsible for any untoward incident that might happen to any individual/resident or members of the DVC, DNWO, DNYO, DNSU and VDB.

A separate order issued by the DVC directed the landowners in whose houses the trio resided as tenants and sold alcohol from there, to surrender their land patta issued by the Council to head GB Kekhwetsu. It was stated that the act of the trio violating the DVC resolution had also violated the undertaking of the landowners executed before the Council on September 24, 2011 and June 13, 2012. The directive was issued to three landowners namely; Zhehovi Awomi, Akabo and Imkongsowa.

DVC said that the houses where the tenants resided would be locked by the Council. Further, the Council resolved on Wednesday that if anyone was found selling alcohol and other banned items within the village jurisdiction, the culprits would be expelled from the village and property of the landowners seized.

Meanwhile, during the meeting on Wednesday, public of Diphupar demanded the village council to hand over the three accused to them for public interrogation. During the furore, some members of the public pelted stone inside the premises of the DVC hall but the commotion was contained before it turned ugly.
