Directorate of Eco & Statistics bids farewell to outgoing director

The Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DoES), Nagaland today bid farewell to its Director Y Sacheo Ovung, who retired on completion of 35 years of government service.

Incoming director R Kronu acknowledged the outgoing director Ovung as a ‘mentor and teacher’ while being the longest serving director of the department for more than 8 years. He highlighted that after joining as language translator in the education department in 1985, he also served as statistician in PWD in 1988, became assistant director of Economic & Statistics Department in 1992 and went up to head the department since 2009. Describing him as a “cool and broadminded gentleman with immense patience,” Kronu wished him prosperity, happiness and a healthy retired life.

Special Secretary Kevileno Angami congratulated Ovung for successful completion of his innings in good health while maintaining that he was a very positive, enthusiastic and receptive director. Remarking that the Economics and Statistics is an unknown Department but the role it plays is very critical as it brings out data for factual planning and policy making.

She lauded Ovung for being instrumental in bringing several changes including reformation in cadre structure.

The outgoing director, Y Sacheo Ovung in his speech appreciated the support and cooperation of the officers and staff of the department for the team spirit in successful completion of his tenure as the director. Maintaining that there is no substitute to hard work, he encouraged the young officers and staff to have the enthusiasm to learn and ensure strengthening the statisticians by bringing out accurate data for better planning and policy making at different levels.

Ovung also assured of his cooperation towards the department even after his retirement.    

On behalf of advisor for Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics & Statistics L Khumo, PA Pokio Khiam delivered his speech while Chairman Nagaland Bio Resource Mission, L Thronghokiu, President Nagaland Economics & Statistics Services Association, Neisatuo Puro and other officers & staff of the department also spoke on the occasion. Joint Director Neidilhou Angami chaired the farewell programme held in the Directorate Conference hall following all health safety measures and SOPs of the government for COVID-19 pandemic.
