One person has been arrested in connection to the July 13 bomb blast in Chümoukedima. The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion, which occurred near the Khovanalla iron bridge in Chümoukedima A, claimed the life of one Assam Rifles’ soldier, while wounding four others.
The arrest, confirmed by multiple sources, was made by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on October 29.
The suspect was a 35-year old man, who was arrested from Jalukie, Peren district. As per reliable sources, he was the same man who was initially detained for questioning by the police in the aftermath of the blast.
He was placed under NIA custody following a remand hearing before the Special NIA court on October 30, the sources said. He was taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The arrest happened three months after the NIA took over the case from the Nagaland Police in the last week of July following a directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The case also had the post-blast investigation unit of the elite National Security Guards (NSG) scouring the blast site.
