Mon, March 17 (MExN): In view of the “panic buying tendency” in Mon Town due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mon Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has informed the public that “there is enough stock of essential commodities in the market.”
MCCI, President, N Ünok SN and General Secretary Administration, Kamnyi Konyak in a press release has also issued warning that spreading such fake messages and rumours of shortage of stock in social media will be penalized as per the relevant section of the law and also clarified that commercial vehicles ferrying essential commodities to Mon District are doing business as usual.
Meanwhile, the MCCI has issued the following directives and advisories to all shopkeepers under Mon:
• All shopkeepers, tea stalls, hotels and restaurants etc to maintain outmost cleanliness and hygiene.
• Selling of random butchers and meat shops strictly prohibited in around Mon HQ
• All shopkeepers directed to keep sufficient stock of essential commodities
• It is advised to avoid large public gatherings for the time being keeping in mind the extremely contagious nature of the virus
• MCCI also warns shopkeepers not to sell any items at prices higher than the marked price (MRP). If anybody found at fault, then strict action and penalty will be initiated against the defaulters.
Mon DTF to hold meeting
The Mon District Task Force for COVID-19 meeting was held on March 16 at DC Conference Hall, Mon. A DIPR report stated that the meeting discussed on the outbreak of COVID -19 where Chief Medical Officer, Mon Dr Kechongol Sophie highlighted on the preventive and preparedness measures done in Mon District. The task force decided to hold a meeting with the NGOs, Church leaders, taxi association, bus owners and chamber of Commerce regarding banning of church gathering, wedding and Aoleang festival. Deputy Commissioner, Mon Thavaseelan K, IAS has also requested to Medical department to immediately prepare Isolation ward.
