Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) in various districts of Nagaland held several activities across the state from October 2 till date. 

According to updates, the Dimapur DLSA in collaboration with ICFAI University Nagaland organised a webinar on Legal Awareness on October 8, with Rupanka Bhuyan, Academic Coordinator addressing the webinar on behalf of ICFAI University. 

Somet C Chang, CJM & Secretary DDLSA spoke on the topic ‘Legal Services and its role,’ where she highlighted the provisions of Legal Services Act, 1987, which provides free legal aid and legal awareness for citizens. She also stated about the category of people entitled for free legal aid and also the role played by legal services authority. 

Panel Lawyer Sentimenla, spoke on the topic ‘Basic legal rights’ and underscored the rights of women, right to file an FIR and various other topics on individual rights, the updates stated. 

Speaking on the topic ‘Consumer Protection Act (CPA), 2019,’ Retainer Lawyer Sonile Seb said that the basic aim of the CPA 2019 is to save the rights of the consumer by establishing authorities for timely and effective administration of consumer disputes. She also enlightened the participants about the salient features of the CPA 2019. 

Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairperson, DDLSA, Y Longkumer, while summing  up the webinar, laid emphasis on topics like the Domestic Violence Act, Consumer's right, cyber law, employees right, basic legal rights and on the civil and criminal laws too.

As per the updates, question hour was also held after the programme with participation of panel lawyers, paralegal volunteers of DDLSA, students, faculty and staff of ICFAI University. 

Mon DLSA: In Mon, an Essay competition for students on the topic ‘Fundamental Duties’ was organized by the DLSA.
First position was awarded to Ngepmei H Konyak of Green Valley High School while second position was awarded to Y Hinglong Konyak of Green Valley High School. Tingpon Konyak of Sacred Heart School came third in the competition.

District & Sessions Judge and Chairman DLSA Mon, Inalo Zhimomi, hand over the cash prizes to the awardees, the updates stated.

Peren DLSA: The Peren DLSA took part in the Peren District Administration’s celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 with retainer lawyer Asungbe speaking on women’s rights and protection of the girl child. 

Asungbe also highlighted the activities of the Peren DLSA, according to the updates.

On October 12, Peren DLSA distributed 20kgs of rice to 30 beneficiaries at Jalukie B village, in a brief programme where Retainer Lawyer Asungbe highlighted the workings of Peren District Legal Services Authority and handed over the commodities.

Wokha DLSA: The Wokha DLSA meanwhile identified construction workers and helped them in preparation of documents and applications to register for the Nagaland Building and other Construction Workers’ Scheme. 

According to the updates, the conrtruction workers were assisted by Panel Lawyer Renbonthung  Tsanglao, JMFC/ Secretary  WDLSA Khrievono Seletsu , District  Project  Assistant Shanchobeni P Lotha and Case Worker, OSC Wokha Thungbeni Kikon.
