DLST condemn alleged abuse of minor

Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): The office of the Dimapur Langpangkong Senso Telongjem (DLST) has condemned the alleged physical abuse of a minor by a couple in Sematilla Colony, Dimapur.

In a press release on Sunday, DSLT President SN Meren Jamir and Secretary Sentimeren stated that the incident was an “extreme disregard of the law and against the basic tenet of a civilised human being.” Children have the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated, physically or mentally and any form of discipline involving violence is unacceptable, it added. “Such practice has no place in a civilised society and therefore we condemn such practices in the strongest terms and adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards any sort of violence against children even in the future,” the release stated.

Violence against children is violative of the right to live with dignity which is integral to right to life under Article 21, it said, while urging the Government of Nagaland to commit to the constitutional guarantees in the best interest of the child.
