DMC cautions on animal cruelty

Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on Friday informed that all animals, whether domestic or wild, are protected under section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.

This requires animals to be treated in a humane way during transportation, rearing or even during slaughter for meat purpose, DMC Administrator Albert Ezung stated in a press release on March 12.

And as such beating, kicking, overloading, torturing, causing unnecessary pain or suffering to any animal, conveying or carrying either in or upon any vehicle in such a manner as to subject it to unnecessary pain or suffering is strictly prohibited, the release informed.

The DMC in coordination with state Animal welfare Advisory Board Nagaland (SAWAB-N) and society for prevention of cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is keeping a strict vigil and any person dealing in any inhumane manner to animals as endorsed by the SAWAB-N, shall be prosecuted as per the provision of the Act, the Council cautioned.
