DMC directive on animal slaughter

Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): As per various notifications/letters and Supreme Court directives pertaining to enforcement of slaughter house rules under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter House) Rules, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has informed that there will be a total ban on pig processing in the stockyard.  

A press release from DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam informed that all the pigs/swine to be slaughtered for human consumption within the DMC jurisdiction will be slaughtered only from the authorized modern slaughter house established by DMC at Old Khatkhati road, Burma Camp, Dimapur with effect from September 1, 2018.  

All the meat shops will avail trade license by following strict guidelines issued by DMC, it said.  

DMC further stated that all meat shops shall be upgraded and modernized to provide safe, healthy, and hygienic meat to consumers.  

Failure to comply with this directive will invite heavy penalty and imprisonment as per the provision of the Act, it cautioned.
