DMC faced with huge financial liability

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 9 (MExN): Chief Advisor to the Dimapur Municipal Council Er. K. Kedidtsu disclosed on Thursday that the DMC is currently burdened with financial liabilities running over Rs. two crore. It includes over Rs. sixty lakhs in employees’ provident fund, gratuity and leave encashment. Keditsu made the disclosure to media persons, September 9. The Chief Advisor said that the money deducted from the employees’ salaries has not been deposited in their accounts as yet, according to the available records.

Besides, an additional amount, of not less than Rs. two crore is not in the account of the DMC. This particular amount was part of the money collected from ‘allottees’ meant for construction of buildings at New Market, Keditsu said. In total an amount crossing roughly Rs. three crore was deposited by the ‘allottees’ of New Market to the DMC during the previous tenure, Keditsu said.

According to the balance sheet, Keditsu said, some expenditure is shown. However, the remaining amount which is supposed to remain after the expenditure is deducted is missing. This particular irregularity concerning the amount deposited by the ‘allottees’ is yet to be verified though, Keditsu said.

He said that it requires an internal audit to ascertain the facts. If irregularities are detected, the advisory board will be left with no alternative but to hand over the matter to the higher authority, Keditsu held. He though added that the deficit regarding the employees’ provident fund is confirmed.

Keditsu further said that the revelation is not aimed at hurling allegations but rather its intent is to clear up the matter.
