Dimapur | February 25

IN A day of high political drama, a total of 13 Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Councilors today submitted a signed petition to the District Commissioner of Dimapur, requesting a No-Confidence Motion be passed against the DMC Chairperson Vikheho Awomi. The DC, K.N. Ngullie confirmed to The Morung Express that he had received the petition today, signed by 13 DMC members seeking a No – Confidence motion against the present DMC Chairman and Vice – Chairman D P Angami.

The DC however refused to disclose the names of the 13 DMC members wanting to oust the present Chairman. Till the filing of this news report, only the names of K. Khekaho Assumi and H. Tovihoto Ayemi could be ascertained.

Earlier, at a press briefing held at Hotel Saramati, K. Khekaho Assumi and H. Tovihoto Ayemi, DMC members from Ward No. 2  and 8 respectively, confirmed that a total of 13 DMC members had submitted the signed petition to the District Commissioner, requesting a No – Confidence motion be passed against the DMC Chairman, Vikheho Awomi.

Khekaho alleged that this drastic action had been taken due to the autocratic style of functioning and decision making of the DMC Chairman which did not go down well with the majority of the DMC members. Khekaho stated that the disgruntled members had initially agreed upon taking action during the first week of February but had decided to wait for the DMC celebrations to be held, on being advised by the senior members within and outside the DMC to do so. Further, he said that the issue would be debated and discussed among the 23 DMC members in the presence of the DC though he held the view that the Chairman should resign and step down on moral grounds.

On being contacted, the DMC Chairman declined to issue a statement at this present juncture but said that there was no question of him resigning.
