DMC tussle exposes NPF

Dimapur | February 26

FOLLOWING THE reported move of 13 Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Councilors submitting a signed petition to the District Commissioner of Dimapur, requesting a No-Confidence Motion be passed against the DMC Chairperson Vikheho Awomi, the DMC Chairperson and his Deputy DP Angami issued an official communiqué to the media here today claiming that the “DAN Alliance members of the Dimapur Municipal Council are in majority”.

“We, the DAN Alliance members of the DMC would like to reaffirm our support for common cause and that we are intact”, the four sentence official communiqué issued in the DMC official letter head stated. Assuring people that there was no need for any worry, both Vikheho Awomi and DP Angami stated: “it is our firm belief that God is with us and that the people are witness to whatever we do”.

However despite today’s statement of ‘confidence’ by Vikheho and his Deputy, earlier yesterday, the Dimapur DC, K.N. Ngullie had confirmed to The Morung Express that he had with him the petition signed by 13 DMC members seeking a No – Confidence motion against the present DMC Chairperson and Vice – Chairperson. While the DC refused to disclose the names of the 13 DMC petitioners, the names of K. Khekaho Assumi and H. Tovihoto Ayemi DMC members from Ward No. 2 and 8 respectively were the only ones that could be officially confirmed as both of them had publicly aired their stand against the incumbent DMC Chairperson.

Party President and on whom a lot in the matter rests, Dr Shürhozelie, however, refused to comment at this juncture saying that he would convene an office bearers’ party meeting to hold consultations on the matter. When asked if the meeting would be held tomorrow, he said “there is no hurry.”

Earlier yesterday, spokesman of the pro-changers group Khekaho Assumi had alleged that the decision to move a No Confidence Motion against the DMC Chairperson had been taken due to the autocratic style of functioning and decision making of the DMC Chairperson which did not go down well with the majority of the DMC members. “The Chairperson should resign and step down on moral grounds”, Khekaho had said.
