DMHP Kohima urges collective action on suicide prevention

Kohima, September 16 (MExN): The District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, has called for collective efforts to create supportive environments where people experiencing difficult times can seek help, be heard and receive appropriate support, as it observed Suicide Prevention Week from September 11 to 16.

The observance focused on the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, with the DMHP conducting awareness and sensitisation programmes at Government High School, New Market; Little Flower Higher Secondary School; Mavericks Academy; and NPSC Mentors, Kohima.

In a press release, the DMHP Kohima informed that sessions addressed myths and misconceptions surrounding suicide and mental health, with emphasis on reducing stigma and barriers to seeking help and promoting understanding, support and timely intervention among students and young people.

The platforms of Akashvani Kohima and Doordarshan Nagaland to raise public awareness on suicide prevention, mental health and available mental health services in Nagaland, it added. 

The DMHP Kohima further encouraged the public to join efforts in creating a culture of hope, understanding and support, and to be a source of support for those going through difficult times.
