Dimapur, February 5 (MExN): DMI St Joseph Global School conducted a workshop on how to recycle bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable waste for the Class IV-VI at the school premises on February 5.

Resource person Zuloto from the department of Social Science addressed the students on how to differentiate the waste and use it as manure for the fertility of the soil.

With the use of related videos and pictures, she explained that if the waste that goes to the earth from humans, factories, industries etc is not recycled, the soil will lose its fertility, which will in turn affect the living species, including human beings on earth to cater to their needs.

Hence she cautioned that they should recycle the waste through a proper process to convert it into manure for the plants and trees and to increase the fecundity of the soil.

Zuloto went on to highlight how the non-biodegradable waste such as plastic, polythene cover, water bottles, tin cans, tires and computers are all items that cannot decay in a land fill affect the soil. She sensitized the students on the need to learn how to recycle them.

Zuloto demonstrated through various activities on how to recycle biodegradable waste. For instance, she asked the students to bring fruits of their choice and during the session, she instructed them to eat the fruits and throw the peels into the biodegradable trash bins. The teacher then asked the students to dig a pit on the school premises, and bury the waste.
