Peren, May 26 (MExN): With the rapid surge in Coronavirus infection in the State, availability of better health care facilities and sufficient manpower has become a popular demand.
Bringing to the notice of the State government, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) on Wednesday stated that “the hospital at Tening is one of the first and oldest in the State which is in existence and yet it continues to reel under very poor condition.”
“As per laid down norms, a Community Health Centre (CHC) is entitled to have six doctors on duty. However, the Tening CHC runs with a single doctor,” said a press release issued by ZSUN, President, Dithuibo Newmai and Vice President, Sangwangbou Shingbengmai.
It stated that the CHC is the only hospital which will cater to the medical needs of the entire sub-division and “for a single doctor to tend to them all is asking for the moon.”
“Not to mention the lack of basic infrastructures and facilities like Oxygen, ICU, ventilators etcetera the absence of doctors and nurses in the hospital is glaring step motherly treatment to the people of the region,” ZSUN stated.
“As we face an unprecedented pandemic, there is hue and cry for better healthcare system and the people of Tening sub-division are being neglected and the lives of people gambled with,” the ZSUN said and criticized the State government for “its lackadaisical attitude” towards the people of Tening sub-division and Peren district in general.
It said that the people of the sub-division have been more than cooperative to the government since the first wave of COVID-19 and will continue to do so in the days to come. “However, without the presence of medical personnel in the hospital, it will be a fight which cannot be won in the long run.”
“By the grace of God, COVID cases have been minimal in the area compared to others but as seen and understood, complacency will ultimately trigger the spike and bring about untold misery,” it stated.
“We do not ask for anything more than what a CHC is entitled and deserved by the people,” it stated while appealing to the government to look into the matter and “make good of your pronouncements that the State of Nagaland is well prepared to deal with COVID-19.”
Further, it added that the threat of the third wave is eminent and it is significant for hospitals to be working at their optimum levels, “so we hope that the government will positively respond and give the people what they deserve.”
