Kohima, May 31 (MExN): World No Tobacco Day was observed with the theme ‘Commit to Quit’ in the Conference hall of Directorate of Health and Family Welfare (DoH&FW), Kohima on May 31.
Addressing as the special guest, Dr Thorsie Katiry, Director (Family Welfare) encouraged the officers to set an example to others during the pandemic by staying away from tobacco products.
Dr C Tetseo, State Nodal Officer (NTCP), in his presentation talked about the dangers of smokeless tobacco which is often ignored. He specifically mentioned about Magnesium carbonate, which is used as anti-caking agents in all Gutka and Pan masala, as people are consuming this chemical far in excess of the daily limit, and it could be dangerous for those whose renal function is compromised. It may be noted that, many popular Pan masala brands were banned in other states because of the presence of this compound.
