Doyang a place of peace and friendship: Rio

ZUNHEBOTO, APRIL 12 (DIPR): Participating in the joint community fishing of the Sumis and Lothas at Doyang River, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio hoped that the bond of Nagas linked in harmony in the earlier days can be reaffirmed through such joint social activities and ventures.

He further expressed hope that Sumis and Lothas can be a torch bearers for all Nagas. “Nagas were, are and will continue to live as one family” stated Rio. He was of the view that if tribalism and individualism were done away with, Nagas will march ahead with the rest of the world and added that he was appreciative of the people’s love towards him. While sharing his equal love for them, he named Doyang valley as a place of peace and friendship.

An enthusiastic Rio was cheered by the huge gathering of about 5000 people, when he announced that his government will take up Doyang as a tourist spot where the construction of the resort each on both Sumis and Lothas side respectively would be started soon. He also made a commitment to construct a hanging bridge across the Doyang River, adding that under Chief Minister Corpus Fund a resting facility will be taken up.

Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary Y. Doshehe pronouncing the welcome speech said that this joint traditional method of fishing is to reaffirm friendship between Sumi and Lotha communities. “It is a day of fishing and feasting” stated Doshehe. He announced that the valley will be called N. Rio’s Camp and the road leading to the camp from Coco Road as N. Rio’s road hereafter.

The joint fishing programme was well participated by about 13 Legislators including Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries. P. Patton Vice President NPF chaired the programme.
