Dr T Ao Trophy: Tournament in abeyance after detection of COVID-19 cases

The Organizing Committee of the 21st Inter-District Football Championship (Dr T Ao Trophy 2021) today informed that due to the detection of COVID-19 cases among representatives from certain districts, the tournament has been kept in abeyance till further order.

According to sources, 12 persons taking part in the 21st Dr T Ao Trophy in Kohima reportedly tested positive on Wednesday.

Clarifying on the detection of cases, the Convenor of the Organizing Committee and the Tournament Secretary in a statement on April 14 stated that, “Unfortunately, inspite of necessary directives to all the District Football Associations to follow strict mandatory protocol set by the organizing committee and necessary SOP, however, some cases were detected following which necessary precautionary measures were taken.”

The positive cases were shifted immediately to quarantine centre under proper medical care and the rest remaining are confined and under observation, and all necessary SOP and precautionary measures are taken within the perimeter of the affected area to contain the spread, the statement added.

The 21st Inter-District Football Championship 2021 (Dr T Ao Trophy) commenced on April 12 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. Organized by Nagaland Football Association (NFA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources & Sports (DYRS), Nagaland, it was scheduled to conclude on April 19.

12 teams were taking part in the tournament with Phek, Peren Tuensang in Group A while Group B consisted of Zunheboto, Noklak and Kiphire. Dimapur, Mon and Wokha were in Group-C and Kohima, Mokokchung and Longleng were in Group-D.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Longleng vs Kohima match on Wednesday was called off and Kohima was awarded a walkover win.
