The funeral service of noted surgeon and founder of Oking Hospital & Research Clinic Kohima, Dr. Vikethonyü Kesiezie, was held at the Golden Jubilee Hall, Cathedral, Kohima on Tuesday.
Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and several dignitaries attended the funeral service and paid respect to late Dr Kesiezie.
Dr Kesiezie passed away on August 17 and is survived by his wife, Zothangpuii Kesiezie, and four children.
Born on May 22, 1961, to late Thinuoseo Kesiezie and late Neisieil Kesiezie, Dr Vikethonyil Kesiezie devoted his life to medicine, healing, compassion, and service to others.
He began his MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) studies in 1979 and subsequently his Master of Surgery (MS) in 1987.
He began his medical career in the service of the Government of Nagaland before transitioning to private practice, where he established Oking Clinic in Kohima.
Under his leadership, Oking steadily grew into a significant healthcare institution, serving patients from across Nagaland and providing essential medical and surgical care.
In close collaboration with the Church and his medical team, he travelled to remote villages and communities, bringing medical care to those with limited access to healthcare services.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr Kesiezie served people from all walks of life with dedication and compassion.
During the funeral service, condolence messages from CM Rio and others were read out.
In the message, CM Rio described Dr Kesiezie as a dedicated doctor and humanitarian who left a lasting impact on Nagaland’s healthcare sector
He highlighted Oking Hospital’s contribution to making quality medical care accessible, including its humanitarian outreach through the Smile Train Shija Cleft Project–Mission Nagaland, which provided free corrective surgeries and support to people with cleft conditions.
The Chief Minister also remembered him as a simple, kind-hearted and genuine friend, extending condolences to his bereaved family.
The funeral service was led by Khotuo Richa, Associate Pastor of Khedi Baptist Church while former Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Lalthara delivered the eulogy.
