Mon, October 27 (MExN): A sensitisation programme on ‘tobacco use and its harmful effects on human’ was organized by District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mon in collaboration with Police Department Mon with Dr I Simon Sumi, DNO-NTCP Mon as resource person at Council hall on October 27.
DTCC Mon in a press release stated that Dr Simon stressed on the rapid increase of Oral cancer cases in our country and Nagaland in particular. He said 90% of Oral Cancer in India is due to consumption of tobacco. He stated the oral diseases caused by tobacco such as leukoplakia/erythroplakia, Ulceration, Oral sub-mucous Fibrosis (OSMF) etc. He urged the participants to regularly go for a medical checkup if there is any sign of OSMF like stiffness of fibers, mouth opening restriction etc.
He later demonstrated some Oral physiotherapy which a person with OSMF should practice in their regular life.
Speaking on the occasion, Imnalensa, IPS Superintendent of Police Mon urged the jawans to be a responsible citizen and to quit tobacco before it affects our loved ones and stated that tobacco is a new normal and its addiction is a challenge which most of us are fighting. He encouraged the jawans to spread the message of ill effects of tobacco to friend, families, relatives and loved ones.
There was also a screening towards the end of the programme.
