Dimapur, April 19 (MExN): The Dimapur Positive Women Association (D+WA) organised its first programme under the banner ‘COVID-19 awareness cum vaccine motivation’ on April 17.
Addressing the surging Corona infection and the fear arising out of it, UNDP Project officer and Vaccine Monitor Dimapur District, Rajesh Khartu Monsang as resource person gave clear information on the current situation of the COVID spread at the national and state levels. He stressed that protocols were powerful weapons against the COVID-19 infection, stated a press release issued by D+WA, Secretary, Achobeni Mozhui.
‘Regular hand washing with soap and water is better than sanitizers,’ he said and added, ‘sanitizing is to protect ourselves from germs when we are out of home in public places.’ He also said that “Prevention is within the power of all the citizens. If we compulsorily wear masks and avoid touching of eyes, nose and mouth, as the virus gets into us through these routes and maintain social distancing in crowded places.”
He informed that as of now three groups of people cannot take the vaccine: pregnant women, mother breast feeding and citizens below 18 years. Persons above 45 years can take the vaccine as per Government order.
On the question of the effect of the vaccine on HIV positive persons, Rajesh said it will rather help the persons with vaccination. On the allergies, he mentioned that if a person had food allergies or could take AT (anti tetanus) without side affected, it was safe to take COVID vaccine.
To the suggestion of the GB of the area to give vaccine in the colonies the resource person responded that it was possible if there were 100-200 takers, but logistic arrangement and man power could be the issue.
The programme was chaired by Mary Yanthan while Joe Ngamkhuchung PNF welcomed all and Mary Jimo, President, D+WA delivered vote of thanks. Including a few colony authorities and some staff of Zakiesato Memorial Hr Sec School, there were about 50 participants.
