‘EAC assaulted by JDU supporters’

DIMAPUR, FEB 25 (MExN): The Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Sungro, Orenthung Ezung, is reported to have been assaulted by Nagaland Janata Dal [United] (JDU) supporters at the instance of Y Ekyimo Kikon, the Party’s former 39 A/C Sanis candidate. The incident is said to have occurred on February 20 at Pangti Village.

The EAC’s official vehicle was also damaged by the perpetrators, according to a press note issued by ‘Senior Citizens’ of Pangti Village. “This whole episode occurred in connection with the election/ selection of Pangti Village Council Chairman.”

Details of the incident have been forwarded to the government by the EAC. But the district authority has not taken any concrete step thus far, it was alleged. “In view of the tense situation,” the Commissioner of Nagaland is said to have instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha to postpone the election till further instruction. “However, he was kidnapped by JDU supporters on intimidation to conduct the election under confinement and forced to declare Npemo Ngullie, retired DB unopposed in presence of only seven Village Council Members out of 34.” Npemo Ngullie has been dubbed as a former national worker who is a ‘traitor.’ The law enforcing agency has been told to book the ‘culprits’ to prevent ‘further eventualities.’
